French Chic

Every room needs an inspiration piece, that one item in a room that inspires you to decorate around it.  For our guest bedroom, it was this French tapestry.

This amazing tapestry was a recent gift to me.  It was bought in an antique shop in France.  I wonder who owned it before me?  A king and queen perhaps?     😉

I used neutral color colors for the bedding so that the focus is all on that beautiful tapestry.  Plus, I just love decorating in neutrals, anyway.

Just look at that embroidery detail.  Gorgeous work.

Yes, that’s a zebra print pillow.  It’s a white on white print that probably offends zebras everywhere but I think it works here.

I think every bedside needs a sweet scented candle and a small bouquet of flowers.  I think it gives the room a warm feeling.  Fake flowers are definitely allowed.

I kept the decor simple and clean.

Who doesn’t love a bouquet of flowers?  These are faux flowers, but I like to replace them (as well as the ones on the night stand) with real ones when we have guests.  It makes them feel special.  I’ll even leave a mint on their pillow.  Too cheesy?  Fancy hotels everywhere can’t all be wrong I figure.     😉

I’m in love with this glorious gold tassel.  The smallest touches to a room can make a big impact.  I don’t know why, but it seems like it has a French flare to it so it seemed like a great addition to this room.

Personal items help give a room character.  My youngest sister and I call these things “DCs”… dust collectors.  Lol.

Groups of three make the setting look natural.  Don’t ask me why but that’s one of those things that decorators swear by.  By the way, I think they’re right… 4 is too much and 2 is too little.  Go figure.

Stacking items is a great way to create height and visual interest.

I love how this room came together as soon as I received the tapestry.  The guest bedroom is finally set and I’m on to the next room to decorate.

Happy decorating!

  4. Can I be your “guest”?? 😉 I absolutely love that tapestry. I wouldn’t go to sleep. I would just stare at it all night!!

    1. Tina says:

My dad came over to help hang the tapestry. For the next week, every time I went upstairs, I made a b-line to the room to stare at it! 🙂

  5. Okay how relaxing does this room look!? I love it, Tina! Even though we’re in an apartment currently and can’t alter too much, our walls/floors/trim are gray/white/dark gray so we’ve been decorating in neutrals with little pops of color. That tapestry is the perfect focal piece!

    1. Tina says:

It sounds like you have a great base to work from in your apartment. 🙂 So you could play it safe with neutrals…play with color…or a little combo of both!

  6. What a beautiful tapestry – and that is a gorgeous guest bedroom!
