Mocha Smoothie

I meant to pick up vanilla yogurt at the grocery store.  Can you imagine my surprise when I opened up the container at home and saw vanilla yogurt with chocolate chunks in it?  Man, I hate it when I pick up the wrong food by accident.  Does that ever happen to you?

It turns out it was a happy accident because I couldn’t stop eating this yogurt.  I dove into it like it was ice cream and I was cheating the dessert police during breakfast time.  Isn’t that always fun?  Well, to a sweet junkie like me, it is.  🙂

It’s fitting to start a new year with a healthy recipe and I decided to kick 2015 off with a smoothie.  You know what’s even better than a healthy smoothie?  One that has chocolate and coffee in it!  Yup, you heard me right.  Chocoholics and coffeeholics unite.

How would you like your dose of protein and caffeine all in one convenient drink?  I sure would.  If you like to gulp your smoothie down in a matter of minutes then this is like a fancy frappuccino from a cafe (but healthier and cheaper).  Look out for those brain freezes though.  If you are like me and you like to savor every sip and drink it over time then this becomes a creamy iced coffee (because the ice melts over time).  Either way you’ve got a winner of a smoothie here.

I have a confession to make.  I’m an elitist when it comes to yogurt.  I only eat the Greek stuff.  No, it’s not because I’m half Greek.  (Though that may be how I discovered it so many years ago before essentially all yogurt was Greek yogurt.)  That’s because it’s simply far better tasting than regular yogurt and I prefer the thick and creamy texture.

Also, I pretty much eat it every day for breakfast.  I add a little fresh or frozen fruit to it and maybe some granola if I’m feeling adventurous.  It’s tasty and it gets the eating healthy job done.  I’m loving that I now have a new way to get enjoy my morning yogurt.  (Or a new way to get dessert for breakfast if that’s how you’d rather look at it.)  🙂

I was inspired by Chobani’s #MadeWithChobani project to create a recipe.  With my love of Greek yogurt, it made complete sense to join their crusade and help spread the word on healthy eating.

So as we begin a new year, I’m taking a pledge to eat more healthy.  I’ll admit that I’m not perfect on that front.  I mean who can refuse the best chocolate cake on earth when one has a chocolate craving?  Trust me, a slice of that cake is worth the temporary fat pants.  Moderation is what it’s all about.

Do you make new year’s resolutions?
