No Christmas is complete without crinkled cookies.

Can you believe this is the first year that I’ve ever made a crinkle cookie?  I’m stunned.  I’ve made about a bazillion cookies and the crinkly ones never seemed to make the cut.  I’ve been missing out.  No mas.

First of all these cookies are mad easy to make.  I don’t know about you but I could do with a little easy in my life, especially this time of the year and also especially when I’ve been making more complicated cookies.

These are beautifully covered in my precious (aka powdered sugar) so of course I’m going to be obsessed over them.  (And of course my husband will end up accidentally choking on the sugar on them.)  If you’ve never had them before, they’re a mix between a brownie and a cake in a convenient cookie form.  I’m betting Santa would love a plate of these.  😉

Chocolate Crinkle Cookies Recipe
(Makes about 22 cookies)

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup butter, softened (equivalent to 1 stick)
  • 1 cup light brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 and 1/4 cup all-purpose flour (equivalent to 5.3 ounces)
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.  Lay a silicone mat or parchment paper on top of a baking sheet and set it aside.
  2. In a large bowl, cream the butter and brown sugar.
  3. Mix in the eggs.
  4. Add in the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt and mix until everything is combined.  Note that the cookie dough will be soft and sticky.
  5. Fill a small bowl with the powdered sugar.
  6. Scoop about 1 and 1/2 tablespoons of cookie dough directly it into the powdered sugar bowl and roll it around into a ball until it’s well coated.  I used the OXO good grips medium cookie scoop.  Don’t try to roll the dough before you coat it with the powdered sugar because it’s way too sticky and will get all over your hands.
  7. Place the rolled cookie dough onto the prepared cookie sheet and bake them for 11 to 13 minutes or until the tops have a crackled look.
  8. Transfer the cookies to a wire rack to cool.
