Our Home for Christmas

I love decorating our home for Christmas.  Every year I do things slightly differently.  You may recognize some of the decorations from last year or the year before, but I also bought some new things from Michael’s store and Pottery Barn.

This year I went with a mostly white wintry theme.

I arranged some faux branches to make this arrangement.  It took me three attempts before I was sort of happy with it.  You can’t really tell from the photo but it’s got sparkles on the leaves.  Pretty much everything I bought has glitter on it so needless to say I had to vacuum many, many times when I was done with all of the arrangements and garland.

How cute are these fury little reindeer?

I’ve used live garland and wreaths to adorn the stairway in the past.  The garland is a pain in the butt to put up and extremely messy to take down so I’ve vowed not to that again.  (Every time I vow to never do it again my loving husband tries to remind me of this vow as we buy more.)  This year I thought I’d try a faux swag at the end of the staircase.  It’s lightly flocked so it looks like it’s covered in a light snow, which I love.

I hung pretty faux evergreen pieces on each end chair in our kitchen.  Can you tell I went the faux route this year?  I thought it might be cheaper and cleaner.  If I use them again it will be cheaper.  However I think that I traded the mess of live evergreen needles with glitter so I don’t think the faux option was less messy (at least not these ones that I picked that have sparkles on them).

I kept the white wintry them going in the family room.  Yes, the water in Turks and Caicos is always seasonally appropriate.  🙂

I found these faux roses at Michael’s and I knew that I had to find a spot for them somewhere.

I love fury blankets and pillows.  I’ve got some more on the couches and even in our bedroom.

I added a few natural touches to this nook.  (And a peek at the Christmas tree in that mirror, how fun is that?)

I tried to make sure some of the decorations had a wintry touch so that I can keep them up after Christmas.  Winter is still winter in January, so why should I be forced to redecorate?

Hello, Ralph the reindeer.  Yes, sometimes I name things.  😉  He’s shiny and looks like he’s made out of sticks, but he still gets a name.

Candles are must, especially this time of the year.  They create a lovely ambiance and give warmth to any room.

I think that the Christmas tree is the most important Christmas decoration so I like for it to be the shining star, in other words I like big trees.  This tree is 10 foot, 2 inches tall.  It’s a doozy.  It took quite a bit of work for us to get it into the house and into the tree stand.  Thankfully no humans were harmed during that process.

It felt like it took me forever to decorate the tree, and I don’t even count the time my husband took putting all the lights on it or running out to buy more ornament hooks.  (Seriously, why does everyone sell ornaments without hooks, and some places that sell ornaments don’t even sell the hooks?)  While I like to switch up the decorations in the rooms, we decorate our tree the same way every year.  We adorn the tree with white lights or colored lights (depending on the year) and a variety of ornaments that have been given to us or that we’ve collected along the way.  There is no theme going on here, just a tree full of mementos and memories.

How fun is this tree skirt?!  I just bought it a few weeks ago and I’m obsessed with it.  It’s like a fur trimmed sweater for a tree!  Who says trees can’t be stylish?

This manger is one of the most treasured items that I own because my parents handed it down to me a couple of years ago.  We used to put this exact one under our Christmas tree when I was a little girl so it is very sentimental.  This year I decided I’d rather show it off without it being on the floor under the tree.

Christmas was always a special time of the year in our home when I was growing up and I like to continue to make it special for me and my husband.  Decorating our home is one way to make the holiday season a special one.

I hope that you’re enjoying the holidays so far.  It will be Christmas day before we know it!
