Healthy Goals

The #1 new year’s resolution is to get more healthy.  I guess I’m in good company because that’s my new year’s resolution too, again.  I seem to have this resolution several times during the entire year so I’m not sure if that’s truly a “new year’s” resolution except that it happens to coincide with the first day of the year.  I’m not usually one for making resolutions.  I suppose January 1st is a good excuse to reevaluate all of my resolutions, especially when it comes to healthy eating since I probably ate more cookies last month than all of last year.  I thought I’d share with you what my healthy goals are for 2018.

1.  I want to continue working out and challenge myself physically.  I have to say that I’m good about working out.  I’m that annoying person who works out on vacation.  I think the key for me is to find something that I like to do so that I stick with it.  If I get bored of a routine then I change it to keep myself motivated.

I want to continue running.  I pick up running every now and then, usually depending on the season.  I started running in August and I definitely prefer to run outdoors.  It’s too cold and snowy now so I go to the gym about three times a week and use the treadmill.  It’s SO boring but I love how I feel afterwards.  I want to stick with it, no matter how boring it gets, and push myself to run faster and longer.

I also want to continue following Kayla Itsine’s BBG workout.  I started following her workouts back in March of 2017.  I do three resistance training sessions a week.  I feel that I’m stronger and that I have more stamina so I want to continue with the BBG program and push myself to hit it harder.  I think that means that I want to keep on putting in the effort on all the physical training things I do.  I wrote more about the BBG workout in a Friday Fitness post back in November so feel free to check out that post if you’re looking for more details about how the BBG program works.

2.  I want to eat more healthy.  I struggle the most with eating healthy because I love food.  I’ve followed a variety of food programs over the years.  I don’t usually share the specific food program with you guys because I think it’s super personal.  Sometimes I don’t even tell my family.  Plus I feel like I might be judged if you see that I post a recipe that is not exactly “diet friendly.”

I always feel inspired when I hear about other people’s health goals so I thought this year I’d share more details and let you know that I’m following the Weight Watchers program.  I’ve started and stopped Weight Watchers a handful of times over the past 10 years.  It does work for me… when I follow it.  I’m not perfect.  While I really do like Weight Watchers, I will be the first in line to grumble about the fact that they seem to change the meaning of their stupid points exactly timed with when I figure the current ones out.  😉

Now with the holiday food frenzy behind us (mostly, there always seem to be a couple of stragglers due to weather and scheduling issues) and the new year here, I am feeling extra motivated to be healthy.  I even bought a new workout outfit.  I get excited to work out when I wear something new.  I have no idea why a new outfit motivates me but I’ll take it.  These Zella leggings and LuLuLemon tank are so comfy.  I usually wear black and grey in the winter time but I thought the bright color might be more cheery or something.  Seriously, I’ll take any amount of cheery possible if it helps me go right from bed in the morning to the gym.  These clothing lines are not inexpensive, but I’ve tried other cheaper brands and they just don’t last very long, at least for me.

Have any of you tried the Bai drinks?  The ones with the funny commercials with my man JT.  The coconut pineapple is my first one and I wasn’t crazy about it, but I think it grew on me because for some reason I liked it by the time I was almost finished with the bottle.  So weird.

    Our family is addicted to Bai. Coconut is my least favorite of the drinks, but the Watermelon and the Strawberry Lemonade are amazing. I’m rooting for you with Weight Watchers. I did that years ago and it’s definitely one of the best plans out there because it encourages you to eat healthy, real food. Happy New Year!!
