Traditional Sugar Cookies

Happy birthday to my best friend’s daughter!  She was born on the same day as me.  She celebrated her 1st birthday this year and for her party I made these sugar cookies. I like to bring sugar cookies to a party when I don’t know what people like or if there is a possibility that someone might have a nut allergy.  Sugar cookies are a simple dessert and I think most people like them, especially kids.  This sugar cookie recipe represents the quintessential sugar cookie because the cookies come out soft, buttery and wonderfully sweet. Another great point about sugar cookies is that you …

Sugar Cookie Icing

Everyone needs a good sugar cookie icing recipe in their recipe collection.  I don’t make cut-out cookies often, but when I do the icing is a must for presentation points! This icing is sweet which makes it perfect to use with sugar cookies.  In fact, I would use this icing recipe with other cookies like gingerbread cookies.  You can customize the icing to any color you want.  Plus, initially its consistency is thin so that it’s easy to use for icing the cookies, but then it hardens up nicely. Okay, so this isn’t going to be the most exciting blog…I mean cleaning?!  Not a glamorous topic.   Nonetheless, I just learned how to clean the jets of my jetted tub without using chemicals and I figured that since I had to research how to do that then maybe others might be interested in my passing the info along. My husband and I have a jetted tub in the master bathroom of our new home and this is the first time I’ve ever had one.  In general I try to use natural or “green” products for cleaning around the house but …

How to Dry Orange Slices

My husband and I had oranges in the house and they were about to go bad so I thought I’d try to dry.  I’ve never tried to dry fruit before so I turned to the “all knowing” internet.  There are actually a lot of techniques for drying oranges slices but I turned to Martha Stewart.  I mean she would know best, right? I loved the way they came out because they have a shiny sheen and bright orange color to them.  I would definitely bake them this away again in the future.  The orange slices look great in a bowl …
