Quinoa and Black Beans

About three years ago I made quinoa.  I cooked it in water and didn’t add any spices. It was incredibly bland and tasted…well, “gross” was the only word that came to mind.  In other words, I said to myself “I’m never making this again.”  For that reason, I’m really not selling quinoa to you, but stay with me here.  I kept hearing that quinoa is so healthy and I know a bunch of people that really like it, so I thought I’d give it another try with this recipe.  It may have taken me a few years to get here …

Chicken Chili Soup

It was cool this past weekend here in CT and I was not mentally prepared for it.  I feel like the cooler temperature came out of no where, maybe because we had a really hot and humid summer.  It seemed like it was time to drag out my over sized sweatshirt, which used to belong to my husband.  When I first met him about 7 years ago, he used to wear this orange sweatshirt  quite often.  Once we got to a certain level in our relationship, I “suggested” that he retire that sweatshirt because it had seen better days.  He …

Marinara Sauce

Do you call marinara a sauce or a gravy?  You may know it as only one or the other depending on where you live.  I call it sauce.  Gravy is the stuff you put on turkey at Thanksgiving time.     😉 I am half Italian and my Italian grandmother made the best sauce and meatballs.  Of course everyone’s grandma made the best, right?  During summer, my grandpa would grow tons of tomato plants and my grandma would use some of the tomatoes to make her marinara sauce.  It was simply divine.  I tried to get her recipe but sadly I was never …
