Are you guys ready for another edition of Dave’s Bread Corner? I leave you in great hands! You ever been to a bar and ordered pretzels? I don’t mean the kind that sit on the bar getting sneezed on for days at a time, I mean the kind that shows up with earthy brown mustard or some cheesy beer dip and carries with it the warmth of the oven they just came from mere minutes before you eat them. Well, I have… and they are awesome. 🙂 I started the day with the question “What kind of bread have …

French Baguettes
Here’s another dose of Dave’s Bread Corner, courtesy of my awesome bread making hubby… So there I was wondering about new and interesting breads to try to make when it occurred to me that I had absolutely no idea how to make French Baguettes. Well, okay, absolutely no idea may be a little bit of a stretch. Obviously I have plenty of experience making bread, and I have some guesses about what goes in French bread, but I’ve never made it before and I was curious about how exactly one achieves the texture of a baguette. As it turns out it’s really …
Hint of Chocolate Cookies
This is a Dave’s Bread Corner recipe in disguise. I know, you’re thinking cookies aren’t bread at all but my husband loves cookies and aside from bread they are one of his go to baked goods to make. A common pattern when he’s in the kitchen baking is that he prefers no-fuss recipes. If a cookie recipe says to chill it in the fridge for a while or calls for “odd” ingredients he will often look for a different one, or more commonly simply adjust the recipe to not involve them. This recipe was invented by him while he was …
English Muffin Bread
I don’t mind buying certain generic foods, but I have to admit that I’m a brand name snob when it comes to English muffins. I really only enjoy Thomas’ because their taste and texture is the best. (This is not a paid advertisement.) They even have limited edition flavors, like banana bread. Banana bread English muffin? Yes it sounds weird but it was so delicious. A few months ago I found this recipe, pinned it (on pinterest.com), and forgot about it. Does that happen to you? I recently came across it again and simply had to try it right away before it got lost in the …
Homemade Calzone
Is a calzone the same thing as a pizza but just in a different form? I know, it’s a deep philosophical question. 😉 I want to say yes because the components of each are identical, bread, cheese, sauce, and toppings. However, if I have a craving for pizza, a calzone won’t do the job, and if I have a craving for a calzone, pizza isn’t going to solve it either. Perhaps that means they actually are somehow different. How does that make sense? It doesn’t. Regardless, I still love me a tasty calzone, especially a homemade one. Homemade …
