Springtime Decor

I’m from the Northeast and I look forward to Springtime.  There is something about the warmer temperatures, the birds chirping, and the smell of fresh air that makes me happy.  Plus, this is the time when I can go back to running outside!

I want my home decor to match my cheerful mood and the best way to do that is to use light and bright colors, lovely typical Springtime colors. What colors make you smile?  I am loving white and orange right now.

I love using white accents throughout my home because I think it is stylish and affordable.  Truth be told I enjoy using a monochromatic white look all year long.  The set of clean white bowls and white candles on top of a mostly white marble cutting board is the centerpiece of the server.   I added some dried orange slices that I made a few weeks ago which pair beautifully with my white color scheme.  As an alternative you can use apples or lemons. Both options also represent a fun Spring color pallet.

I use some of my mostly white formal china dinnerware with crisp white cotton napkins to the left of the centerpiece.  White napkins are very inexpensive and you can use them to coordinate with any theme for any time of year.  I’m not the kind of girl who uses a traditional china cabinet so I’m always looking for creative ways to show off various dinnerware pieces.  To add a pop of color in this corner, I’ve placed my great grandmother’s orange colored carnival glass vase (which is over 100 years old).  The carnival glass is wonderfully iridescent and I’m proud to display something that has been in my family for so many years.  I wonder how the women before me used this piece in their decor.

Wine anyone?  Ok, so the bottles aren’t the orange color that I’ve been using but it still works.  You don’t need to be all matchy matchy…that’s a technical term.  I paired the wine bottles with some of my wine glasses.  See, there I am showing off my formal wear again.    I think wine or liquor bottles can look pretty so don’t hesitate to incorporate any other cool looking bottle and maybe pair it with the coordinate glasses that you would use to serve that liquor.  For example, a gin bottle (some brands have tinted light aqua blue glass container which is another perfect light color for Spring) sitting alongside some tumbler glasses.

I adore the gold colored tassel that my husband’s step mom just gave to me.  This fancy embellishment adds wonderful detail and another pop of color.
