Mini Powdered Doughnuts

Selfies.  Do you love or hate them?  Do you post selfies?  If yes, how many shots do you take before you pick the one that you actually post?  I’m not sure how I feel about them.  I’m not opposed to them, per say, but at the same time, I don’t find myself wanting to take pics of myself for the world to see.  Especially with the camera only as far away as my arm allows.

What does this have to do with mini doughnuts?  Well, it doesn’t.  I just started an Instagram account, it got me thinking about the topic and I was wondering what your thoughts were.  Now onto better thoughts… doughnuts.

These mini cake doughnuts are covered in powdered sugar.

I love my new mini doughnut pan.     🙂  If you read my post from a couple days ago then you’ll remember that I said I didn’t really want to spend the money on a spiralizer.  I apparently have no qualms about buying a mini doughnut pan.  I suppose I have my priorities.     😉

01Mini Powdered Doughnuts

I LOVE these doughnuts!  They are pretty much the best plain doughtnut ever.  However, they are not a boring plain doughnut.  They are seasoned with just the right amount of cinnamon, enough to give them awesome flavor, but not too much to be called a cinnamon doughnut.  When you bite into one you can see all the fabulous cinnamon specs.  Unless you are the type to pop the entire mini in your mouth (my hubby) and then you’re simply missing out on the visual effect.

If I were these mini powdered doughnuts, I’d probably take a few hundred selfies of myself.  Look at me in a tall stack!

Now look at me on a fancy straw!  (I might have had a little too much fun with this photo shoot.)

The first time this recipe made an appearance on my blog, it came in the form of a mini muffin.  Yes, I really love this recipe enough to post about it twice in two different shapes.  If you don’t have a mini doughnut pan (and you have a mini muffin pan), don’t fret, head on over to my Mini Powdered Sugar Doughnut Muffin post for the directions.  If you don’t have any of the above you can probably just put a small amount in the bottom of a regular muffin pan hole and everyone will just think you were making “Mini Powdered Hockey Pucks”.  (I’m kind of just kidding, but I bet they’d still taste amazing though.)

Mmm powdered sugar.  You have no idea how excited I was that I could make something and then literally bury it in powdered sugar when I normally have to limit myself to a delicate dusting.  Examples of a gentle flurry of powdered sugar include Sweet Almond Pastry and Pound Cake.  Self control is not easy for me where powdered sugar is concerned.     😉

If you’re an Instagram user, do you have any tips for a newbie like me?  I know, I’m a little late to the game on this one but you have to start somewhere.

  1. Aren’t donut pans so much fun to use? I bought a regular one and a mini one at the beginning of the year and absolutely love them! These donuts look delicious, Tina! Powdered donuts always remind me of the hostess donuts in a bag.

And I’m no instagram pro by any means, but I always try to post a picture of a new recipe that was just featured on my blog. So since I post three new recipes a week, I post those on the days they publish. And then in between those days, usually just something fun that is going on, or something food related…like a picture of a recipe “in progress” or something like that. I always try to tag the pictures in several categories, too, so that more people can find them if searching for something in particular. Have a great weekend!

    1. Tina says:

I really appreciate these tips! Thanks so much. 🙂

  2. Oh the selfie… I’m not really into them. But, these donuts lie the selfie pretty darn well. They look so soft and delicious! I need these!

    1. Tina says:

I need these too! It’s no fun when you run out. 😉

  3. Welcome to IG!: 🙂 I don’t post selfies anywhere, really (IG, Facebook, etc.) but I’m super guilty of sending them via text to my boyfriend, my parents, etc. Usually ultra goofy ones at that haha! These donuts look SO good! I cracked up at the donut ‘commentary’ during the photo shoot. And the more powdered sugar, the better as far as I’m concerned! I’m currently without mini donut and mini muffin pans so I’ll be going the hockey puck route, BUT I’m positive no one will care once they taste these. Y-U-M.

    1. Tina says:

Lol! Let’s start a powdered sugar club. 😉

  4. ha isn’t instagram great! these doughnuts are the cutest little things ever.. definitely could devour one right now!

    1. Tina says:

I’ve only been on instagram for 1 week and I think I’m addicted! #GoBigOrGoHome

  5. I have done selfies, but only because I was trying to do a headshot for my blog. The selfie didn’t turn out at all, so I stopped doing them altogether! These donuts though? They’re another thing entirely, because I love donuts!!!

    1. Tina says:

Lol… that would be my luck too!

  6. Hate selfies! There are a couple of gals where I work out and they take them in the locker room of their perfect bodies in the big mirror……isn’t there a law against that? I mean what if they got some gal int he background half nakie? Like me…ugh!
    Kathi
p.s. your photo’s are fabulous, you just get better and better!

    1. Tina says:

Thank you so so much for the lovely compliment on my photos! You made my day Kathi!! 🙂
As for those chickies in the locker room… “wow” is all I can say. A part of me is glad that they are confident with their body image and the other part of me wants me to tell them to take their cell phone somewhere else.

  7. Haha.. I m not a huge fan of selfie… but absolutely love the doughnut selfies… 🙂 the doughnuts look so delicious and so moist.. 🙂

    1. Tina says:

Wahoo! Let’s hear it for the donut selfie! 🙂

  8. I’m beyond obsessed with powdered sugar. As for selfies… pretty much the same. But I’m 17, so that’s kind of a given! 🙂

    1. Tina says:

Yeah, I’m not the only one who’s obsessed with powdered sugar! If we were hanging out I’d join you for a selfie. 🙂

  9. Ha, pretty much all of my photos with me and my 10-month old are selfies. He seems quite photogenic, but I need a lot more to get a good one 🙂 These donuts look so tasty, I need to get a mini donut pan, because the regular sized ones are a bit too big for me. These look so perfect!

    1. Tina says:

Awh, I’m sure you look beautiful but it is hard to compete with an adorable 10 month old cutie. 🙂

  10. Kelly says:

These donuts look so so good, Tina! I have a weakness for powdered doughnuts and love that these are mini 🙂 Not really into selfies either and yay welcome to IG 🙂

    1. Tina says:

I’m such the sucker for a powdered doughnut too!

  11. Mary Frances says:

Selfies are fun with very close friends … but I don’t really want to whole world to see me at arms length 🙂 I don’t mind seeing everyone else’s though (I don’t have Instagram, so I really don’t have too much to say on it 🙂 )
These donuts look amazing! I have a huge soft spot for powdered sugar breads and mini makes everything better. Happy weekend my friend!

    1. Tina says:

Love that… mini makes everything better. 🙂

  12. Growing up we loved getting the little powdered sugar donuts – these remind me of those! I need to make some for my family – they would love them! And selfies…i’m not the biggest fan I have to say! I never think they look very good when I take them!

    1. Tina says:

Yes, why is it that other people’s selfies can look professional and mine looks like a 2 year old took the pic?! Haha.
Entenmann’s and Hostess powdered doughnuts were also a favorite in my house, growing up. They are still a favorite. 🙂

  13. I’m not much of a selfie lover…mostly because I hate the idea of looking full of myself, etc! I have taken one or two but I’m sure I had a good reason 😉 Love the doughnuts – I need a doughnut pan so I can make these!

    1. Tina says:

Once you buy a doughnut pan you’ll wonder how you lived without one! 😉

  14. These powdered donuts are such a weakness of mine and your photos just make me want to reach into the photo and grab one while you are not looking. Just followed you on instagram and looking forward to keeping in touch. In regards to selfies my arms are not long enough…

    1. Tina says:

Haha… you can take all the doughnuts you want, my friend! Thanks for the follow on instagram! I’m following you now too and I can’t wait to see what you’re up to next. 🙂

  15. I am a big selfie taker…. BUT…. Thats because I seem to do lots of things on my own and I want to share my experience, and show I was there. I swear Im not lame. LOL! 🙂
Im a big Instagram user, my only advise, get snapping and sharing girlfriend.
I love your pictures, but I just cant stomach powdered doughnuts, I ate one to many of those little critters and my body rejected them… violently…. Sad faces!

    1. Tina says:

I just found you on instagram and started following you! 🙂
