Who else is stuffed from Memorial Day weekend (aka the all you can eat unofficial start of summer BBQ food bonanza weekend)?
If you are like me then you’re looking to have lighter meals to try to help compensate for the damage done from the weekend. I instantly think of smoothies as a sure fire way to a light and healthy meal. Of course not all smoothies are healthy but this one is. This one is dairy free (if that’s the sort of thing that you’re into or just looking to try something different). Plus this one has got some “stick with ya” powers, thanks to the oats.
The picture below is what it looks like when I prep it quickly for lil’ ole me. There are no fancy toppings. Who’s got that kind of time? 😉
However, I did make a pretty version for you guys (because that’s what I do). 🙂
I don’t usually like to use a cutesy name for a recipe, but I simply had to here. My husband and I recently watched the movie The Holiday. It’s probably my favorite movie of all time. Not only is a great movie but we saw it at the movie theater on our third date so it’s sentimental to me. Anyway, in one of the scenes Cameron Diaz’s character is wearing a lipstick called berry kiss. Since this smoothie is full of berries, I couldn’t help but think of that lipstick color when I made this. Hence this smoothie shall now be known as the berry kiss smoothie.
Berry Kiss Smoothie Recipe
(1 serving)
Ingredients:
- 1 cup mixed strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries
- 1 banana (I used a frozen banana but that’s not required.)
- 1/2 cup oats (I used old fashioned.)
- 1/2 cup almond milk
- 1 cup ice
- (optional toppings) assortment of berries, chia seeds, shredded coconut, slivered almonds
Directions:
- In a blender, combine all of the ingredients and blend them until they are smooth and creamy.
