Berry Kiwi Smoothie

Happy New Year!

I’m back to my normal eating habits, which means that my holiday cookie diet is over.  It’s a shame because a cookie diet is the only diet that I seem to be able to stick with.   😉  I could never give up sweets because I love them so much, so I’m all about moderation.  I try to eat healthy during the week and splurge a little on the weekends.

Smoothies are one of my go-to healthy meals.  I’ve shared a variety of them with you on my blog and now I’m adding this new pretty one to the list.  I was drawn to this smoothie recipe because it contains orange juice instead of the more typical dairy.  I’m always looking for ways to increase my vitamin C during the winter months.  I also like to add protein to my smoothies so I added chia seeds.  Sure, it’s not a lot of protein, but it’s something.  You can certainly skip those if you don’t want them.

If it’s not obvious I do want to make sure that you know that not every smoothie is created equal, meaning that just because someone calls it a smoothie does not mean that it’s “healthy.”  It’s the same thing with salads.  Just because it’s called a salad does not mean it’s good for you.  If you add some leftover fruit pie to your smoothie or load your salad up with French fries, well, it might be tasty, but it will not exactly be “healthy.”

If you are following a diet (of any kind), then I highly encourage you to read labels to determine if something is actually “healthy” for you.
