By the time you’re done reading this post you could have been well on your way to homemade pizza. Less than 30 minutes start to finish, including pizza dough from scratch! I kid you not… I’m very serious when it comes to pizza. 😉
I asked my husband “How long does it take to make pizza?” He replied “A few hours, why?” I answered “Never mind.” but had that sad puppy dog look in my eyes. Clearly I was asking because I was in the mood for pizza, but was not in the mood to wait. Conveniently my husband had stumbled into a possible solution on the internet the other day. This magical solution weirded us out a little, but it was start to finish pizza in one pan in only about 25 minutes.
Here are my husband’s thoughts, as he so graciously made this for me…
The secret to this recipe’s approach is that you simply don’t bother to give the yeast any time to rise, you avoid using the oven entirely, and you accept that your cheese will not brown up during cooking. If you are on board for all of that, then I present “Turbo Pizza.” The ultimate solution to a pizza craving when you aren’t in the mood to wait.
As a yeast loving, bread making, aficionado of the glutenous carbohydrate, I have to confess that I prefer the real deal. This recipe is designed for pizza in near record time and not for pizza that possesses the more amazing qualities of proper slowly risen homemade pizza. Don’t interpret this as me saying this pizza is bad. In fact, it’s really quite tasty and would likely work perfectly for providing your kids with a pizza to eat (or satisify your wife’s pizza craving) without any advanced planning involved. Imagine your kids demanding pizza and you being able to make them one in less time than it takes to get one delivered. 🙂
See, pizza in a pot. It’s really quite fascinating that this actually works. Tina and I were taking bets on whether or not this would come out as a complete mess. Fortunately, that was not the case! We were impressed.
Feel free to load up your pizza with all the typical toppings. We really didn’t have anything in the house, so we were forced to make ours ultra basic. In fact, the only cheese that we had was string cheese. Yes, this meal was truly planned last minute. Tina carefully shredded it up a small pile of cheese sticks and it actually worked out just fine.

Turbo Pizza Recipe
(About 2 servings)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour (equivalent to 4.5 ounces)
- 3/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon yeast
- 1 teaspoon honey
- 2/3 cup lukewarm water
- pizza toppings of your choice (sauce, cheese, etc.)
- In a 10 inch pan, add the flour, baking powder, salt, yeast, and honey.
- Add the warm water and stir.
- Spread the dough to cover the whole bottom of the pan. (Be patient, this step is a bit of a pain.)
- Add you favorite toppings. (We used 1/2 cup of sauce and 1 cup of mozzarella.)
- Cover the pan, put it on the stove (still cold) and turn the stove on to Medium heat.
- Cook for 8 minutes.
- Move the lid of the pan into a position that lets steam out. I just set mine on the pan a little crooked.
- Cook for an additional 10 minutes.
