Pound Cake

I’m taking it back to basics today.  You would think that with all the baking I do I would have a pound cake recipe stashed away, but I don’t.  However, for many years my husband has raved about his step mom’s pound cake.  Of course I had to seek out her recipe and find out what all the hype was about.  (Plus I enjoy baking goodies that my husband loves.)  I was not disappointed.  This is the best pound cake I’ve ever had! Pound Cake Recipe (Makes 12 to 16 servings) Ingredients: 4 cups all-purpose flour 2 teaspoons baking powder 1 pound (equivalent …

Maple Cake

Last month my husband and I had a lovely vacation in Quebec City, Quebec.  Most of the bakeries and patisseries there have a great selection of maple flavored cookies, chocolate, and candy. Since we’ve been back, I’ve been craving maple flavored desserts so this maple cake is just want I wanted. This maple cake is a lightly sweetened maple cake covered with a sweet layer of maple icing. Maple Cake Recipe (Makes 16 servings) Ingredients for Cake: 2 and 1/2 cups all-purpose flour 2 teaspoons baking powder 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 1/2 teaspoon coarse salt 1 cup (equivalent to 2 sticks) …

Pumpkin Coffee Cake

I finally made my first pumpkin recipe this season!  It was bound to happen because it’s a yummy ingredient to work with this time of year.  I hope you guys aren’t sick of seeing pumpkin recipes yet because this one is a winner. Pumpkin Coffee Cake Recipe (Makes 16 servings) Ingredients for Streusel: 1/3 cup butter, melted 1 cup all-purpose flour 1 cup rolled oats …

Chocolate Crumb Cake

Oh yea, two of my favorite things combined into one fabulous dish, chocolate and crumb topping!  How can you go wrong…you simply can’t.  🙂 My Perfect Crumb Cake came out so amazing so I wanted to experiment with how I could incorporate chocolate into that traditional crumb cake recipe.  This chocolate crumb cake came out a-maze-ing!  Can you picture me singing that to you?  Hopefully not because I’m not the greatest singer.  Lol.  The chocolate cake layer is dense, moist, and rich and it’s covered with a layer of cinnamon and sugary crumb topping and miniature chocolate chips.  If you’re saying “oh my!” then you’d …

Cinnamon-Sugar Crust Cinnamon-Ribbon Bread

Whenever I host a brunch I always love to serve some type of bread or loaf because I think it’s perfect for late morning or early afternoon time and it pairs well with the other typical brunch foods. This bread is not really a bread, like you’d make a sandwich with.  It’s a wonderful spice cake.  The ribbon of cinnamon sugar in the middle of the loaf is similar to a streusel in a coffee cake, but there are no nuts in this loaf. Cinnamon-Sugar Crust Cinnamon-Ribbon Bread Recipe (Makes 1 loaf) Ingredients: 1/3 cup white sugar 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon 1/4 cup butter, melted 1 large egg …
