Red, white, and blue… Yup, I went there.
I don’t always match my food with the appropriate holiday theme, but when I do, I go all out. 😉 Since the 4th of July is all about family time around the BBQ and having an iced beverage to cool down, I instantly had the idea of sharing a cocktail recipe with you to celebrate the occasion.
I wanted to make a red, white, and blue cocktail but that seemed to involve too many kinds of alcohol and too much preparation. Who has that kind of time? It’s not that you’re not worth it, but I like to make cocktails that are easy. I imagine you like that too so we both win. 🙂
I have to admit that I prefer gin or tequila over rum but those would be super weird in a daiquiri. I didn’t want to stretch the bounds of logical bar tending with this recipe so I used the booze it called for. In a daiquiri you really aren’t supposed to taste the liquor which makes white rum a perfect choice. It’s like drinking strawberry sorbet with a little kick.
So how I can I introduce white and blue with this red drink? Fun straws! I got lucky and found these at the T.J. Maxx store today. Nothing like waiting until the last minute.
Have fun and be safe for the holiday!
