Stuff I’m Into: July 4th Inspiration

Happy Monday!  I’m already thinking about the upcoming weekend because it’s a holiday weekend and that means two things.  It’s a weekend full of parties and BBQ food (i.e. pig out weekend) and it’s a three day weekend!  There is nothing that sucks about that.

I’ve put together some of my favorite food, fashion, and decor ideas for the July 4th celebration.  I hope you guys enjoy!

BBQ Food and Drinks:

Cocktails are always fun at a party, but I especially love this Strawberry Daiquiri.  Daiquiris are the perfect kind of drink to keep cool and the color coordinates with a red, white and blue theme (if you’re into doing themed parties).

Most BBQs have the typical hot dog and hamburger menu going on.  This Quinoa Salad is a simple an awesome side dish that would go well with any grilled food.

For dessert, a sheet cake is an easy way to go, like this Banana Cake.  It’s one of my favorite cakes I’ve ever made and it serves bunches.

Pies are a popular dessert at BBQs and this Blueberry Pie is the best blueberry pie I’ve ever had.  I’ve made it several times.  Note to self, take new pictures when I make it next time because the originals are… well, let’s just say I’ve come a long way since the original post.  If you don’t feel up to making a pie, then this Giant Blueberry Hand Pie is a fabulous alternative.  Technically speaking it’s not actually easier to make, but it is easier to serve.  Although if you’re hosting or going to a BBQ that will have a lot of people then you may want to make two or five of these.

What to Wear on the 4th of July:

I think an all white outfit is so summery and chic.  Plus it’s an outfit that anyone can pull together under any budget.  I just bought these white shorts that can be paired with a white t-shirt or tank top.  Add a pop of red or blue with fun shoes or a clutch to really get into the holiday spirit.  (My husband points out that white clothing and BBQ sauce may be a bad combo.)

If you want to go super casual, wear jeans or jean shorts with a light weight button down chambray top and neutral espadrilles.  I bought these denim roll up shorts from Banana Republic and this blue and white pinstripe shirt from Cotton:On last year and I still love and wear them all the time.  Espadrilles are a huge summer trend this year and I just bought these Marc Fisher espadrilles (which I’m completely obsessed with).

A simple shift dress is another great option because you can dress it down for a BBQ and dress it up for another occasion.  I’ve been eyeing this shift dress.  It’s super cute, comes in six colors and is less than $50!

How to decorate the home for 4th of July:

I like to keep the decor simple and use fresh flowers.  It’s summer-y and pretty.  (We are still getting the last few red roses of the year from our garden.)  To add a little festive touch I’ll display red, white, and blue straws in cute cups in the kitchen.  They’re inexpensive decor and it’s useful when it comes time to serving drinks.  I bought the ones you see in the strawberry daiquiri from TJMaxx.

What are guys doing for 4th of July?  Ciao!
