Christmas is in full swing in our house. I’ve been watching holiday movies since October 27 (because that’s when the Hallmark Channel starts their Countdown to Christmas) and listening to Christmas music whenever I can. I started decorating the house a couple of weeks ago and now I’m just adding a few finishing touches. I’ve been to the Michael’s store more times in the past two weeks than I have all year.
I do seem to be falling behind in my cookie baking though. Usually by this time I have at least a couple of batches of cookies baked and frozen, waiting to be given out to friends and family. The thing is that I haven’t found many new recipes that wow me. I tried a new cookie recipe today, and while it was tasty it was not blog worthy. I’m starting to think that this year’s cookie batch will be themed “cookies of Christmas past.” You know, make some of the same ones I’ve made in the past that I know are great.
In the spirit of digging through old recipes, here are my top 10 favorite cookies that are perfect for the holiday season (with some never before seen pictures):
Chocolate Caramel Shortbread Bars (aka Twix Cookies). These are my #1 favorite holiday cookies of all time. Everyone agrees. (Yes, I know everyone in the world and they all agree. 😉 )
Almond Biscotti. Ever since I made these biscotti back in 2013, my little sis and I make them every single Christmas. They are an amazing biscotti. I just love traditions. 🙂
Gingerbread Drop Cookies. If you love gingerbread cookies then these are a must-make! Mmm.
Chocolate Chip Cookies. Because chocolate chip cookies are always a good idea, 365 days of the year. Amazingly, Christmas is one of those days, so they are a good idea on Christmas too.
Black and White Cookies. These cookies are a labor of love, but what better time of the year to share with your loved ones. My family has been begging me to make these again. They are just like ones you’d get from a fancy bakery.
Peanut Butter Cup Cookies. I always, always, always make a peanut butter cookie in the cookie baskets that I give to friends and family so I have made many kinds over the years. I could probably do a round-up of just peanut butter cookies. These peanut butter cup cookies are my favorite peanut butter ones (and of course they include chocolate because I love chocolate too).
Double Chocolate Snowball Cookies. Powdered sugar and chocolate. Need I say more?
Chocolate Crinkle Cookies. These cookies are the perfect Christmas cookie of all time. They look like little chocolate mountains where the snow is starting to melt.
Italian Ricotta Cookies. Guys, these ricotta cookies are uh-mazing. They are like little pillows of cakey lemon heaven.
Oatmeal Cream Pies. Because they’re beautiful and delicious. Like a certain brand, only home made and with more delicious cream filling.
Have you started baking cookies for the holiday season? I’d love to get some new ideas.
