Homemade Blueberry Pie

Every dessert table at a BBQ deserves a pie (or 2 or 3). I thought I’d make a blueberry pie for our family BBQ over the weekend because it is appropriately colored to match the red, white and blue theme for the Independence Day holiday.  I don’t always go out of my way to be matchy-matchy with a holiday, but I knew that I wanted to make something easy and I knew that I wanted it be pie so the decision sort of presented itself.  Plus, blueberries are in season so that was the icing on the cake, er, pie. …

Ragu With Pasta

Do you have a routine that you do before you go on vacation?  I do (and maybe that’s not surprising for those of you who know me). Routines are not a bad thing, but I probably take on more tasks than are necessary.  I’m sure when my husband, aka editor, reads this post he will shake his head because he knows that I’m crazy about my routines.  I like to start packing a few days before we leave and I iron everything, including my t-shirts.  That’s normal, right?  😉  I do laundry, including the bed sheets (the day before we …

Hummus and Quinoa Salad

What motivates you to workout? The other day someone asked me how I stay motivated to workout six days a week.  The answer is I like food.  All joking aside, I’ve always been pretty good about sticking with a workout routine.  I feel that it’s good for the body and the mind.  I even work out when I’m on vacation.  Yup, I’m serious and my husband can vouch for me.  I still manage to gain weight on vacation, mind you, but it does help to counteract all of the extra calories that I consume. Food, on the other hand, is my downfall because… …

Homemade Iced Tea

Did you know that it’s easy to make iced tea?  Okay fine, you probably do. I didn’t even know that one could make iced tea at home until my husband showed me a few years ago.  I’m not sure why I was that naive because you can pretty much make anything at home.  Nevertheless, I learned something new and I haven’t bought a tub iced tea powder since then.  I really thought iced tea just came from big tubs with little plastic scoops in them. It’s a staple in our home all summer long and I made the first batch …

Breakfast Pizza

Have you ever made a breakfast pizza?  It’s life changing. I took all of the usual egg breakfast suspects, added some mozzarella cheese, put it all on a piece of Naan bread, and I’m calling it a breakfast pizza.  Guys, this is my favorite breakfast right now.  No joke. As with any personal pizza, you can dress it up however you like.  If you want to skip the bacon, then go for it.  If you want to add waffles on top instead of eggs and potatoes, then…  well, a carb on top of a carb might be weird but I say do …
