Easy Hummus

Hummus is my go-to dip because it’s a real crowd pleaser.  A lot of people like it for so many reasons.  It’s gluten-free, vegetarian friendly, has no cholesterol, and it tastes amazing.  In other words, it’s likely healthier than a creamy, cheesy type of dip.

The chick peas combined with the garlic flavor and a hint of lemon create an awesome taste.  If you use fresh garlic then you can enjoy it right after it’s been made…no wait time.  However, I find that if the garlic is not fresh then in order to maximize the flavors let the hummus set overnight in the fridge so that the flavors have time to marinate.

This recipe is simplicity at its finest.  I love that this hummus doesn’t require tahini or any other special ingredients that most other hummus recipes require (and can be a pain to find).  In fact, I can almost always make this with no notice because I’ve already got the ingredients in my pantry.

Easy Hummus Recipe
(Makes about 12 servings)

Ingredients:

  • 2 (16 ounce per can) cans of garbanzo beans (aka chick peas), drained and rinsed
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 3/4 cup olive oil
  • 3 teaspoons garlic, chopped
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt

Directions:

  1. Combine all the ingredients in a food processor and process for about 4 minutes or until smooth.

Store it in an air tight container in the refrigerator.  (If it lasts that long.)

 

I’ve had the best luck getting that creamy texture from a food processor versus a normal blender.  Just let your processor run until it’s smooth.  Four short minutes in my processor is all it takes!  I love that I can whip up a quick appetizer and focus my attention on the entree and dessert preparation.

You can use it as a dip for vegetables or chips or as delicious spread on sandwiches and crackers.  Or have it any way you like it.  My husband has been known to go after it with just a spoon!     🙂

Have you purchased store-made hummus lately?  It’s expensive.  It’s much cheaper to make this homemade hummus, you know exactly what is in it, and I think this version tastes better.

I like to garnish it with a sprinkle of paprika for presentation points.     🙂

    Yum! One of my favorite snacks with bell peppers, carrots, and cucumbers. I must try this recipe…..what would you suggest adding to make it spicy? Red chili flakes??? Thanks for sharing!
