Fall In Love With Fall

Fall is my favorite season for many reasons!  I was married in October and in fact we’ll be celebrating our 5 year wedding anniversary next month.  We’re going to Quebec City for a long weekend and I cannot wait!     🙂

I love the weather this time of year.  When else can I wear a t-shirt with a scarf?     😉

I adore the Fall/Winter fashion trends, like blazers and sweaters.  I’ve started to pull some pieces from the back of my closet that I haven’t seen since I bought them on clearance last year.  It’s like I’m going shopping in my closet.

My favorite foods come out this time of year, like pumpkin pie and apple pie.  In fact I love baking with apples and I have already started with these Apple & Raisin Whole Wheat Muffins.

Halloween, aka candy season, is coming soon!  A whole aisle at the grocery store dedicated to bags and bags of candy.  It’s way too early to venture down that aisle because if I bought anything now it would never reach the trick or treaters.  Meaning my husband and I will eat it all.  That’s only a bad thing if you’re trying to lose weight (which we are).  However, I couldn’t resist buying these Peeps for my husband.  They’re one of his favorite candies and he doesn’t have to wait for the famous chick shaped ones that come out around Easter time to enjoy them.  Some “boos” for my boo.     🙂

You can tell Halloween is coming because I’m using my seasonally appropriate mug to drink my morning coffee on the weekends.     🙂

We’ll start to watch our annual Halloween programs, but nothing too scary because we don’t like horror flicks.  My favorite Halloween movies of all time are The Worst Witch and Hocus Pocus.  My sisters and I watched them a hundred times when we were kids.  I still know all the words to the songs from The Worst Witch.

I’m not into Halloween decorations, like spiders and skulls.  I’m also not the kind of person who likes to dress up for Halloween, so you can’t go by me.     😉  Instead, I like to bring the natural Autumn beauty into the home.

04Fall Foyer

The foyer is set for Fall!  I started with an over sized hurricane glass filled with tall pussy willows as the focal point.  This simple piece adds height to the vignette.  Then I added fresh mini-pumpkins, pumpkin shaped objects, candles, and leaves to balance both sides of the centerpiece.  Naturally a little black was needed with all that orange, and what better than an owl for that?  Sure, it’s not a bat, but I already mentioned I avoid the scarier stuff.

I love candles because they add a cozy and warm feeling to any vignette even without ever lighting them.  I made the sweater covered votives last year by simply using the sleeves of an old baby sweater.  It was a super easy and inexpensive project.  You can see DIY: Cozy Sweater Votives for step by step instructions.

I laid artificial leaves around the setting to add some color.  I’m inspired by the beautiful Fall colors outside so I love to bring them inside without bugs and mold.

I have some other nifty decorating tips in my Decorating a Vignette 101 post that can apply to your holiday and seasonal decorating.

I’m in full swing for Fall time and I’ve got my Halloween grove on. What are you doing to get ready for the season?
