Marinara Sauce

Do you call marinara a sauce or a gravy?  You may know it as only one or the other depending on where you live.  I call it sauce.  Gravy is the stuff you put on turkey at Thanksgiving time.     😉 I am half Italian and my Italian grandmother made the best sauce and meatballs.  Of course everyone’s grandma made the best, right?  During summer, my grandpa would grow tons of tomato plants and my grandma would use some of the tomatoes to make her marinara sauce.  It was simply divine.  I tried to get her recipe but sadly I was never …

Chewy Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

I wanted to make some cookies so I turned to my husband and asked “What kind of cookie could you go for right now?”  He said “Oatmeal cookies.”  Done.       🙂 So what makes an outstanding oatmeal cookie?  Obviously, they have to taste great.  For me, I think it’s a matter of keeping the cookie simple, using ingredients that my grandma had around the house.  Most of the ingredients in an oatmeal cookie are the same basic ingredients as most other kinds of cookies, like sugar, flour, eggs, vanilla extract, and of course lots of butter. I’m a muffin junkie.  That sounds terrible…junkie…lol.  What I really mean is I LOVE muffins and I’ve been on a mission to make every kind out there because they are awesome.     🙂 These banana muffins are really like a banana bread in disguise as a muffin shape.  They are full of intense banana flavor with a hint of crunch from the pecans.  I’ve topped the muffins with a cinnamon and sugar streusel to give them the perfect touch of spice and sweetness. Banana Muffins Recipe (Makes 12 standard size muffins) Ingredients for Streusel Topping: 1/3 cup brown sugar 2 …

Easy Hummus

Hummus is my go-to dip because it’s a real crowd pleaser.  A lot of people like it for so many reasons.  It’s gluten-free, vegetarian friendly, has no cholesterol, and it tastes amazing.  In other words, it’s likely healthier than a creamy, cheesy type of dip. The chick peas combined with the garlic flavor and a hint of lemon create an awesome taste.  If you use fresh garlic then you can enjoy it right after it’s been made…no wait time.  However, I find that if the garlic is not fresh then in order to maximize the flavors let the hummus set …
